Signal to noise ratios vs absolutes in an abundant world
It often doesn’t matter that most [X] are bad because the absolute amount of [X] in a globalised world makes it so that even a bad signal to noise ratio produces more signal than you could even consume in your lifetime.
> infinite content leads to infinite noise but also infinite signal
TV ads bad -> millions of ads -> thousands of good ads -> bad signal to noise ratio -> doesn’t matter because there are still more good ads than I could ever watch and thanks to the internet I can simply choose
It is up to us to learn to experience signal as absolute and noise in ratios in the abundant world we live in.
LinkedIn is a great example of how the perception of a high noise to signal ratio can affect our experience of reality negative even when there is a lot of absolute signal. (you can read more about this example here)
