Pareceu-me suficientemente interessante e provocador.

Founder type guy wants to have fun with friends

Signal to noise ratios vs absolutes in an abundant world

It often doesn’t matter that most [X] are bad because the absolute amount of [X] in a globalised world makes it so that even a bad signal to noise ratio produces more signal than you could even consume in your lifetime. > infinite content leads to infinite noise but also infinite signal TV ads bad -> millions of ads -> thousands of good ads -> bad signal to noise ratio -> doesn’t matter because there are still more good ads than I could ever watch and thanks to the internet I can simply choose It is up to us to learn to experience signal as absolute and noise in ratios in the abundant world we live in. LinkedIn is a great example of how the perception of a high noise to signal ratio can affect our experience of reality negative even when there is a lot of absolute signal. ( you can read more about this example here ) Relevant tweet: https://twitter.com/jose_goncalves_/status/1571612353044647937

Eternally grateful for everyone who has thought me by example.

Image
Eternally grateful for everyone who has thought me by example. Different people showed me how to love, think, write, cook, have fun, work… and I’m a better person because each and every one of them. I’m out here collecting the best traits out of the people I meet throughout life until I become some kind of Pokemon master. Leading by example is so much more powerful than any sort of theoretical teaching. I’m lucky enough to now - at 22 - have people around me who lead by example and shape my worldview. They are crucial in my development. Some people find these “leaders by example” early in life, other’s much later, and some never find them at all. I’ll try to be one of those people to the younglings around me , especially sisters and cousins. I hope to give them a chance to quickly escape from toxic worldviews. The best way to do pull ups consistently is not to set a gym schedule but to have a pull up bar in your living room

Image
We should be making physical play available all the time. The best way to do pull ups consistently is not to set a gym schedule but to have a pull up bar in your living room. Why you should buy a lot of books if you can and have them around. "this is the reason why kids love their toys strewn all over the place instead of stored in the toy box 📦  if they're visible they will be used... for jungle dwellers nature's obstacle courses offered place to play without needing to schedule work (out) time & sacrificing fun" - Reddy2go Relevant tweet: https://twitter.com/jose_goncalves_/status/1572233245042921473

Watching friends who are great human beings get swallowed by devoting their time to soulless big corporations.

Image
Something really sad happening right now: I'm watching friends who are great human beings full of life, ideas, skills, and passions, get absolutely swallowed by devoting their time to soulless big corporations where their uniqueness is not valued. My friend, you are a whole ass human being. Do you really want to spend your 23rd year of life supposedly optimising the culture or a bank that would run exactly the same way if you weren't there? If I wanna fry my brain, I can think of at least a dozen better ways to do it than to stare at shitty internal communication tools for 80% of my awake time. Reading " Bullshit jobs " a few years ago was excellent because I swore that I'd never put myself or others in that position. If my life is to continue down this path, I'll be a CEO for along time because I love to get people together and build stuff. If any of the people I look out for ever feel like their brains are rotting away because of what they are paid to do, t...

Still coming to terms with the concept of manipulation

Image
Still coming to terms with the concept of manipulation because of 2 incompatible beliefs: > manipulation is everywhere; > manipulation is wrong. - > If manipulation is morally wrong and it is everywhere, including your behaviour, then you are imoral - I believe there are 2 ways to get something done: > Psyop people into wanting to do it; > Make it so that doing it is easier than not doing it; Most things in life are about human coordination. > coordination requires persuasion. Where do you draw the moral line between persuasion and manipulation?   If they were the same thing then either getting things done would be immoral or manipulation is not bad. There must be a line between persuasion and manipulation. Right now to me that line is set by wether you act in good or bad faith. - Blurry asked "What’s the difference between manipulate and influence?" and said that "“ Manipulate” suggests something perverse ." João said that "Manipulation is ...

The illegibility of our minds and it’s implications are a disaster to the human race

Image
The illegibility of our minds and it’s implications are a disaster to the human race Every day, people as mentally distinct as these two are physically go head to head in mental boxing matches in the same weight class AND WE THINK THAT IS NORMAL. These people don't even appear to be from the same species, let alone have the same physical skills. The same exact thing is happening inside our minds, but nobody seems to give a shit about that because it is illegible and thus the default (easiest) behaviour is ignoring it. Imagine how much good, peace, and progress if we actually arranged people according to their mental weight class and let them challenge each other! Imagine how many frustrations and traumas would be spared to those that don't fit in the class they spend their lives interacting with and feeling alienated as a result! No good will come from keeping putting people like these two head-to-head. There is a reason Son Goku had to defeat Cell and die before he could face...

Bringing non-verbal IRL communication online

Image
We need a new way to communicate publicly with minimum effort that makes sense in a video-only platform. I Spoke about that in the Hunches in this thread: https://twitter.com/jose_goncalves_/status/1454125032989396993

Skilfully breaking the fabric of the day-to-day is the cheat code. It’s how you seduce people.

When talking to others, I’ve been finding that their most unexpected answers are often the ones I find the most interesting , even if sometimes they don’t answer the question. - Started thinking about this because of this interaction yesterday: Girl I was meeting for the 1st time: “How do I know you’re not planning to kidnap me?” Me: “Not in this economy” Girl: *stares confused* - The other day I made a comment that would normally generate a lengthy response in a conversation with someone who has great social skills. He paused, said Goodbye and smiled in a distinct way. What would usually be a meaningless interaction has had me thinking about it for weeks. I think the pause is very important here. Precisely 2 years ago I wrote an exploratory essay on silence: https://josemarquezgoncalves.medium.com/an-exploratory-essay-on-silence-b69edc9f1f3d “How can I possibly explain in words what can only be said in silence?” Now, thinking about the translation of IRL silence to the online w...

First impression matter

First impressions matter because that’s when people lock you inside a specific frame . You can expand/adjust/contract that frame with time, but you’ll never be frameless again . This also explains why: - “warm intros” are so important; - “fresh starts” are so life changing; - "pick up lines" work; They are opportunities to exist within different (new) frames. They are your one opportunity to be frameless. Relevant tweet: https://twitter.com/jose_goncalves_/status/1573666464791465989

Yhea I have a blog now.

Image
But, José? Don't you already have a  Revue Newsletter , a Medium page , a Notion database , a Twitter account , and a bunch of Google Docs ( some published , other's not)? Yes, Zezito, I do, but my should is still reaching for a blog like my body us reaching for water. Why? Because I sometimes have thoughts I find interesting and want to come back to and share, but don't have the proper place to do so. The ideal format for these thoughts is often too long for a tweet and too short for and incoherent for a Medium post that people will take way too seriously. This is the place to goof around with half-backed thoughts. Oh and other people can comment on the posts and we can feel like the cute connected community we were always meant to be. Welcome. May your light bless this blog and this blog enhance your light.
